Before being a GeekDad you must have been a geek kid... prove it!

I suppose that almost everyone browsing through the GeekDad Community has built quite a few geeky projects while enjoying childhood.

So the topic is simple, feel free to share a "Back in the days project" or picture and let see how far is the new generation out-geeking us!

Here is mine, my very own LEGO city, not a big city but again I am from France... 20 years ago...

By far my favourite geeky project from Way Back When was the BBS that my friends and I ran from our bedrooms. It started being served over a 2400 baud connection[1] and then we upgraded to 9600 baud when we were feeling flush. It was dedicated to demos and articles about the Acorn Archimedes, which we all had, and was named Archetype.

[1] Look it up, younglings.

Sounds really cool! I use to have one of those to at my parents, but back in France it was called minitel! also dead slow...

Exhibit A -

"In my day, we didn't have these gray Legos with their angles and hinges and spaceshippy pieces. We had BLOCKS. And they were yellow and green and white and you used a clear brick for the bridge of your Star Destroyer and you LOVED it."

Exhibit B - Third grade bookplate art project:

Hey John, I can't agree more. The new types of Lego are getting dangerously close to Playmobil. A lot of pre-assembled pieces which somehow spoil the fun and creativity but ok, it might also help keeping the price of the set down.

But still given the price of making a new custom mold..

Geek Kids....Let me count the ways!!

I have to dig for some photos, but most of my projects were Star Wars based....transforming my bedroom, or taking over the family room, into an intergalactic battlefield!  It would get real creative when we mixed in some parts to our Erector building sets!

:)
