I wanted to open a discussion to discuss book publishing, writing, etc... we've got a good number of geek dads and geek moms who are published writers, and I'm hoping we can get some of our questions answered here by inviting "the vets" to help "the newbs."

Just some thoughts -- need some feedback, please --

1.  I'm thinking of trying to setup a video conference down the line with a geek dad/mom writer. It would be a Q&A and probably use Google+ Hangout to allow up to 10 participants.  Trying to iron out the details, but let me know what you think and WHO you might like to talk with about the writing business.

2.  I want to talk about self-publishing and eBooks. I've been investigating services like SmashWords and BookBaby and similar sites that offer writers a way to get their words in print. So if you have thoughts on this (good/bad/whatever) create a new thread with the service's name (such as SmashWords) and let's keep discussions focused and on target for that thread.  Start a new thread for other services.

3.  Peer Review? Anyone interested? I've got some stuff that I might consider throwing out there for others to read and give feedback -- maybe you do, too.  Not quite sure how best to facilitate something like this, but maybe some of you have an idea or two?

4.  Contacts/Resources -- if you have any suggestions for publishers who are open to new writers, or maybe some websites that offer good advice for getting published, create a thread and share it! I have zero contacts in the agent realm but I have LOTS of contacts for non-fiction technology writing.

5.  Anything I've missed?
