What is Mafia? Sometimes called Werewolf, it's a fun party game of accusations and conspiracy. If you haven't had the pleasure of playing this charmingly devious game at a convention or on another web forum, there's a fun Flash animation here to help you understand the rules.

I'll be moderating a Dr. Who-themed Mafia game here on the GeekDad Community. If you're interested in joining in, all you have to do is sign up below.

Some rules to read before you sign up:

  1. First and foremost: this is just a game. It can sometimes be a tense and dirty game, yes, but you should be doing it for fun.
  2. Each daytime phase will last 1 week maximum. The night phase will last 48 hours.
  3. If a player hasn't posted in 72 hours, I'll prod them publicly in the thread. If they don't respond to the prod within 24 hours, I'll look for an alternate. 5 prods and it's an automatic replacement.
  4. If you're going on vacation, just post it to the thread in bold, or PM me.
  5. If you have any other questions, please consult the MafiaScum Newbie Guide and FAQ. If those don't answer your question, feel free to message me.

If you haven't already, just sign up to join the GeekDad Community here and then respond below if you'd like to join the game!

(Thanks to Michael Harrison for setting up the first GeekDad Mafia game, and providing the layout I'm using here, although the roles have been modified to add flavor)

  1. Michael Harrison
  2. Gene Davis
  3. Bob Sandlan
  4. Nathan Barry
  5. Kevin Clem Joe Earnest
  6. Eric Lund Russell Collins
  7. Valerie Merriam DeBill
  8. Chris Earnest

We're still undecided, with a little over two hours to go. Still haven't heard from the newcomer. Joe, as someone new to this fracas, do you have any thoughts?

Trying to sort through it all.  I vote Mandy

Day 2 Final Vote Count

Michael Harrison: 1 / Chaos Mandy Horetski
Chaos Mandy Horetski: 5 / T. Kelly, Bob Sandlan, Daniel Donahoo, Chris Earnest, Joe Earnest
Kevin Clem: 1 / Russell Collins
Not Voting: 2 / Gene Davis, Michael Harrison

With 9 players, it takes 5 votes to convict.

Silence Will Fall...Literally

“Well, I have to say I’m disappointed in you all. I would have thought what happened last night would have stressed to you the importance of what we’re doing here, yet you all seem to think this is some kind of game, voting for someone who isn’t even here. I suppose we’ll have to call this day a failure, and hope that we all somehow survive through the night.”

As River turned to walk away, her eyes strayed again to the number “9” scribbled on her arm, thinking she would take the evening to try to sort it out. She was surprised to see that now, underneath the “9”, were two words.

“Look Up”

Quickly she turned her gaze to the vaulted ceiling, and as she stared into the eyes of the creature suspended above, everything became clear. The black markings, the number 9, the final vote. The Silent. A creature who erased itself from memory the instant you were no longer looking at it. As she watched, the creature became aware of her, and sparks began to arc from the chandelier from which it hung. The Silent was drawing power from the light, preparing to deliver a deadly bolt of electricity, when suddenly the chandelier came back on, and at her feet crashed the skeletal remains of the enemy.

“Draining power from the one thing that was keeping you from the Vashta Nerada? And here I thought your species was supposed to be intelligent.”

And so, Day 2 ends with The Silent (Chaos Mandy Horetski), Anti-Town Roleblocker, removed from The Library. Night has fallen once again in The Library. If you have a night ability, use it or lose it. Day 3 will begin Monday, June 11, 11:00p MDT (GMT-6:00), 48 hours from now.

A quick recap of rule 3:

3. Do not talk about this game outside of this thread. It's cheating. Don't be a cheater.

"this thread" in this case would also include any discussion forums specified in your character profile.

Thanks.

River watched sadly as his friends carefully covered his mangled body.

“I wish I could have gotten to know you. The Doctor always spoke so fondly of you, ‘Idiot Mickey’. Killed saving the ones you love -- this world could do with more of that kind of idiocy.”

---

Night 2 closes with Mickey Smith (Michael Harrison), Town-Aligned Bodyguard, ripped to pieces while protecting his friends. Day 3 has started, and will end on Monday, June 18, at 11:59p MDT (GMT-6:00). With 7 players left, it takes 4 votes to convict.

Well, we do have a turn of events here...(just to confirm, Mandy was a baddie, right? "Anti-Town")

That means either one of us who voted for Mandy is trying to bluff...or Russell and Gene you are beginning to look like you may be voting in the wrong direction - why would that be?

Given the fallout I feel for Michael - the focus of so much conjecture - the scum have been having a field day!

Russell, you voted for Kevin's character, why was that?

Yes it does look suspicious for me - but in point of fact the vote was over before I could weigh in (to be honest I was waiting for Joe to get a chance to get engaged in the game since he was an add-in - I didn't want to vote for Mandy and end the day prematurely, but then Joe did it for me :)).

Interesting also about Michael - since he was a Bodyguard, we can presume (thank you MafiaWiki) that the scum were actually targeting someone else, but he was Protecting them, so he died instead.  Somehow he sensed who the scum might go after in the night, and he was right.

It's my belief that one or more scum voted for Mandy, threw her under the bus.  Whether intentional (a false feint as an early vote), or later on as inevitable bandwagoning, let the arguing begin...

Well, the reason why I voted for Kevin was simply because we were at an impasse and time was running out. I tried to work with Micheal, even though I still suspected him. Good thing I changed my vote. My internet has been flakey, and I knew that I wasn't going to be able to follow the thread before the day ended. We were discussing voting for Kevin because he hasn't been on, so that's why I put my vote in for him. And this was before Joe took over.

Nice point Gene -

So, who might Michael's character have been protecting - any ideas folks?

And who could be the scum. At this stage Russell I'm not convinced by your flakey internet - Gene sounded much more sound to me.

To save you the trouble of looking it up yourself, here's the last post I made at the end of that day. And if you want to make sure that is what was said, please feel free to check for yourself. It's the last post on page 13.

"Well, seeing at how late it is for me, and the fact that I'm not sure if I'll be up before the deadline, I'll officially change my vote."

As for who Micheal may be protecting, did anyone notice anyone that he seemed to agree with constantly? Might be a place to start.

Going back through the thread, I can't find much of a trail or many clues as to who Michael may have been protecting - as a newbie, I'm assuming that Michael was protecting a townie with a strong role/power, something we are yet to see out in the open.

As for previous votes - I'm increasingly concerned about Gene and Russell as they have been on the wrong end two days running now - both voting for Nathan Day 1 and both abstaining/casting questionable votes in Day 2. I do have to give Russell some slack as I was the one that initially proposed the "Vote for Kevin because he bailed on the game" theory.  So at this point, based on voting history and lackluster excuses, I'm leaning Gene.
