What is Mafia? Sometimes called Werewolf, it's a fun party game of accusations and conspiracy. If you haven't had the pleasure of playing this charmingly devious game at a convention or on another web forum, there's a fun Flash animation here to help you understand the rules.
I'll be moderating a Dr. Who-themed Mafia game here on the GeekDad Community. If you're interested in joining in, all you have to do is sign up below.

I have failed to effectively use my skills. For that I apologise - I am pleased to still be around.
I think we do have to keep an eye on the facts...

Vote: Daniel

With a boyish smile that had melted the hearts and loosened the knees of a thousand people on a thousand worlds, Captain Jack faced River. “This should be interesting. I’ve been stabbed, shot, drowned, blown up, buried for a thousand years, and encased in cement. What do you possibly think you have in that bag of tricks that can kill me? Why don’t you just stop now and go back to your Doctor? Live well and love each other for whatever time you have remaining. You’ve sacrificed your friends and your family, and for what? A few extra days, months, years?”
As his smile slowly slipped away, she saw the misery of a lifetime of love and loss that would never end. “Please, River, take it from someone who knows best because he will never know for himself: there is no dishonor in death after a long and brilliant life such as you two have shared.”
River bowed her head in shame. Jack was right. She had failed. But as he activated the vortex manipulator on his wrist and vanished in a flash of light, standing once again when so many had fallen around him, she also knew she would not give up. Could not give up. Too much had been lost already for it to have been in vain. Even if she could never return to the man she loved, she would at least make it safe for him to live on without her.
Gazing out the skylight, River watched the daylight fade into night, knowing it would be her last one in this place, and that, whether the dawn brought success or failure, for her, there could be no salvation.
Day 4 closes, as Captain Jack Harkness (Daniel Donahoo), Town-Aligned Bulletproof Cop (Insane), leaves the Library. The final night has fallen. For ill or for good, Day 5 is the beginning of the end, and will start Friday, June 29, 10:30p MDT (GMT-6:00).
Permalink Reply by Randy Slavey on June 28, 2012 at 12:49pm River loaded the last of the bodies into the TARDIS. It had all been for naught. All of the friends and family she had brought to the Library were now gone, lost to her forever. Standing in the doorway of the TARDIS, she addressed the two who remained.
“They are all dead. Friends, enemies, mother, and now father. I am leaving now. I will return to London, awaken The Doctor, explain what has happened, and spend every hour I have left begging his forgiveness for the awful deeds I’ve done here. You two can sort it out. Life is too short.”
Turning to the floating wooden orb, River said, “Thank you, Cal, for your help. I will leave you now in peace. Please express my gratitude to Dr. Moon, and pass along this one last request: follow the sun. Place this damnable planet in the darkness of eclipse until these two have finished with each other.”
River turned away, closed the door, and with a familiar woosh-shvoop sound recognizable across the galaxy, the TARDIS disappeared. In the Library, darkness remained. For one of the survivors, dawn would never come again.
Rory Williams (Joe Earnest), Town-Aligned Lover, has left the library.
With two players left, the day becomes irrelevant. Send me your night actions. Once I have a response from both of you (or 48 hours has passed), the night will end and a new night will begin. You have until Saturday, June 30, 12:00pm MDT (GMT-6:00) for your first night action.
Permalink Reply by Randy Slavey on June 28, 2012 at 6:57pm In the Library, two remained. One who killed for pleasure, the other for sustenance. Prisoner Zero, the perfect mimic, and the Weeping Angel, the hunter of living energy with the perfect defense mechanism. They stared across the room, looking for an opening, knowing that the other’s demise was just a blink away.
Prisoner Zero worked diligently at the terminal, trying to activate the podium next to him. All he had to do was turn it on, face it towards the Angel, and lock it in position, and the Angel would remain frozen, locked in the gaze of the never tiring computer-controlled face. All he had to do was keep looking, never blinking. His species could go weeks without sleep. It was only a matter of time now.
“What have you done to me? I can’t see. Who turned out the lights?”
From across the room, the empty chair came to life, and Davros’ last words, echoing through the chamber, his body kept animated by the Vashta Nerada were just the distraction the Angel needed. Prisoner Zero glanced at the empty chair, just for a second, and the last thing he felt was the hard, cold hand wrapping around his throat.
And with a final scream, Prisoner Zero (Gene Davis) Anti-Town Tracker, has left the library. The Weeping Angel (T Kelly) alone remains, surrounded by billions of billions of Vashta Nerada to feed off for eternity. Congratulations to our second GeekDad Mafia winner and the first Serial Killer to win the game. Thank you all for playing!

Permalink Reply by Michael Harrison on June 28, 2012 at 9:04pm Wow, well-played, T. That was an intense one toward the beginning. I felt like such a newb for the whole random assignment thing. I honestly thought it was a good idea!
I had a lot of fun playing. Thanks to Randy for putting it on and running everything!

Permalink Reply by Randy Slavey on June 28, 2012 at 11:12pm Here are all the roles and abilities, in case anyone is curious. My two main focuses were to try to make it as even as possible, and try to make it so that characters and their roles and abilities coincided (e.g. Rory and Amy were the lovers, Jack and Martha were investigators, etc.) Since we ended the game with 1 serial killer, 1 townie, and 1 scum, I think the even part worked out well. As for the roles, I modified a few so that they went well with their character.
A couple of things that would be fun to see in the future:
All in all, though, I thought it went really well and I had a great time. Thanks to everyone for playing. I look forward to taking part in the next game. Who's up for moderating another one?
Here is the character list. I also have a complete breakdown of comments, votes, actions, etc. if anyone is interested.
