In the Forum Games: Movies, I recently gave a clue that got me thinking about movies and how they are connected to one another through actors, characters, plots, etc., and I thought it would be fun to see if the movie geeks here could figure out, given two movies, how to get from movie A to movie B. For example:

Two Degrees:

The Matrix

X

Roadhouse

would be Point Break (Keanu Reaves and Patrick Swayzee).

I'll start with one of my favorite movies and one of my favorite TV shows:

Two Degrees:

Back to the Future

X

House, M.D.

Winner gets to choose the next set. Good luck.

Through the power of Google and Wikipedia, I discovered a link through an actor, but I don't know if that's cheating, so I won't reveal it unless I get approval :-)

I think Google research is acceptable, especially if you get into more than two degrees. Plus, I'm just curious if what you discovered was the same idea I had, so go ahead.

I discovered that Thomas F. Wilson, who basically played the entire family Tannen was in the 2007 "Whatever it Takes" episode of House, MD as the patient's father.

Did you have a different connection?

In the spirit of full disclosure, if I had to label myself as a single type of geek, it would be an info/research geek. I know how to find information.

Impressive, but actually, what I had in mind was nothing that obscure. Like my example, there is another movie between the two of them.

hmm, let me investigate further... :-)

Great game, Randy! Looks like Dave is the winner. Dave, you want to start with a new one?

Alright, how about

Two Degrees:

Toy Story

X

The Avengers

(this is probably really easy, but I'm just kind of easing my way into it)

(And I'm not sure it needs to be said, but the connection is a person, not a movie)

Joss Whedon co-wrote the screenplays for both movies. :)

I like it. I think that would be one degree, though. They both share the same co-writer. Two degrees would be something that they did not have in common, but instead something that requires a third movie to connect them. For example, in your case, I would have chosen The Incredibles as my answer as Wallace Shaw was Rex in Toy Story and Mr. Incredible's boss in The Incredibles, and Samuel L. Jackson was Frozone in The Incredibles and Nick Fury in The Avengers.

I guess I assumed that since Dave said it was a person...

I'm sure you're right, and that is what he was thinking. I was just replying to him that there was no real degree of separation since they both shared a common writer.
