What is Mafia? Sometimes called Werewolf, it's a fun party game of accusations and conspiracy. If you haven't had the pleasure of playing this charmingly devious game at a convention or on another web forum, there's a fun Flash animation here to help you understand the rules.

I'll be moderating a Game of Thrones-themed Mafia game here on the GeekDad Community. If you're interested in joining in, all you have to do is sign up below.

Some rules to read before you sign up:

  1. First and foremost: this is just a game. It can sometimes be a tense and dirty game, yes, but you should be doing it for fun.
  2. Each daytime phase will last 1 week maximum. The night phase will last 48 hours.
  3. If a player hasn't posted in 72 hours, I'll prod them publicly in the thread. If they don't respond to the prod within 24 hours, I'll look for an alternate. 5 prods and it's an automatic replacement.
  4. If you're going on vacation, just post it to the thread in bold, or PM me.
  5. If you have any other questions, please consult the MafiaScum Newbie Guide and FAQ. If those don't answer your question, feel free to message me.

If you haven't already, just sign up to join the GeekDad Community here and then respond below if you'd like to join the game!

So far, we have:

  1. Chris Earnest
  2. Randy Slavey

Unjustly is an understatement.  We have a chance, people to separate head form deserving body.  Not someone who is only asking questions and trying to make sense but someone who wants to see justice done.  When my head roles remember who I called for and make day 2 voting a quick thing.

If my life is a wake-up call for people to stop and think before they throw there vote away then so be it.

END OF DAY 1 VOTECOUNT!

Chris Earnest: 8 / Ian M'Rock, Nathan Barry, Spencer Dylan, Randy Slavey, Gene Davis, Andy, Kevin Clem
Randy Slavey: 1 / Bob Sandlan
Nathan Barry: 1 / Denine S
Ian M'Rock: 1 / Chris Lee
Spencer Dylan: 1 / Chris Earnest
Andy: 0
Bob Sandlan: 0
Not voting: 1 / Chris Barber

And the votecount is accurate. Yes, Chris E. has 8 votes.

Chapter 2: Renly

Renly Baratheon sat in the Small Council room, pondering his brother's death. He knew that surely the Lannisters had something to do with Robert's hunting accident, but what could he do to prove it?

Suddenly the doors boomed open and the room was filled with white cloaks. The Kingsguard, with Joffrey Baratheon at their rear.

"Uncle Renly," Joff said, smiling cruelly. "You are wanted at the Sept."

The guards hoisted the younger Baratheon brother up and shoved him toward the door. Joff shook his head in mock sadness. "Such a shame, killing your own brother to become king. The Seven save your soul."

At the Great Sept of Baelor, before a great crowd of smallfolk and nobles alike, Renly Baratheon was forced to kneel.

"Ser Payne," Joffrey said, nodding to the thin King's Justice. "This man is accused of killing his own brother, a crime unforgivable by men and god alike. Let the people see their king's murderer brought to justice!"

Sir Ilyn Payne brought his greatsword up, held it high, and then brought it down.

With a splash of blood and a tumble of his head, Chris Earnest, also called Renly Baratheon, Innocent Aligned Vanilla Townie, was executed.

Above the Red Keep, night fell. It will end in 48 hours. If you have a Nighttime Action, use it or lose it!

Oh, and to be clear: PM me your nighttime actions to keep them secret/safe.

Just a reminder! Deadline for nighttime actions is today at 3:30pm ET.

Day 2

After the public execution of Renly, tensions were high. As the sun set red and bloody on King's Landing, there were murmurs that King Robert's killer had not been brought to justice. And when the sun rose the next morning, there was proof that things were not right in the Seven Kingdoms.

Ned Stark stood, his face a stoic mask of despair and anger. The Silent Sisters had brought his eldest son, Robb Stark, to the throne room. Robb was dead, found in a back alley of the city, hacked into pieces by the sword of a madman. It seemed that Robb had come down from Winterfell to grant his father aid. Ned would never again speak to his heir, his poor Robb.

"Lord Stark," a voice interrupted. "I am sorry to bring you such news when already your heart is filled with grief, but it seems that your son's traveling companion, your own ward, Theon Greyjoy, has also met an untimely demise." The attendant held out a bloody dagger. "Stabbed in the back by this knife, my lord. A knife of Qartheen design, we are told."

And so Night 1 ends, with Chris Barber, also called Robb Stark, Vanilla Townie, killed by being chopped to pieces, and Bob Sandlan, also called Theon Greyjoy, Town-Aligned Vigilante, killed by a dagger of Qartheen design.

Day 2 begins. With 9 alive, it takes 5 to lynch. Deadline is Thursday, May 3rd, 10pm ET.

OK I will be the first to say, "Woah, what happened?"  We went from 9 Townies to 6 just like that.

You seem awfully certain about the number of Scum. While 3 makes a certain amount of sense for this game, it's by no means certain... unless you know because you are one.

vote: Gene

D1 lynches are always a shot in the dark with joke votes and no real information. It also looks like I'm the only Chris left. That should make things easier.

My original vote for Ian was because of the "I also haven't received Andy's role yet" thing. I don't really think that makes you scummy, but I do think that makes you a Lannister. ;)

Ian has obviously played before and is sharing some good information, however he also did a very good job at maintaining the momentum for Chris E's D1 lynch. It looks like we have several new mafia players in here (myself being one of them), and it seems like it was very easy to get them to follow along. "Oh, the experienced player says we should do this so okay." To them I say, "baaaaa".

Again, I'm going to:
VOTE: Ian M'Rock

Hmm, you are right - where did I read 3 as the magic number?  I can see how that would make me seem a likely scum candidate, but I know I am not.  But as you are so quick to jump on me:

Vote: Ian

While I have played several Mafia games before, both online and in person, I'm not trying to play expert here. My push for completing a lynch yesterDay wasn't from some sort of word from on high, but due to the reasons I laid out. if you can find a flaw in them, please feel free to point it out and allow me to defend myself.

An automatic knee-jerk reaction against experience isn't any more helpful than an automatic bowing to experience. If nothing else, it's more detrimental because it puts everyone in a state of mind where they don't want to appear like they're thinking about the game, lest they be hammered in reaction.

If you don't see any merit in what I see as a scumslip from Gene, what do you say to Chris' plea prior to his lynch for looking at Spencer for his third vote?

I had every intention to honor a dying man's wish. With his last breath, Chris E. maintained his innocence and directed our focus towards another player. It would seem like just a last ditch effort to get the focus off himself, but now that he has been proved innocent, I intended on taking a closer look at Spencer.

However, I'm concerned about Chris Lee's response to Ian. I've been going through the comments from Michael, as well as the Mafia wiki, and while it does appear that with 11-13 players, 3 scum is standard, there is no absolute rule as such, so I think Ian's deduction was logical. However, it's Chris's comment that strikes me as odd. Why, fifteen minutes after Ian's comment and vote, is Chris so eager to both pile suspicion on Ian, as well as make a psychological move against the rest of us that we're sheep if we listen to what experienced people have to say? Even to the point of twisting around the events of day one?

I think it's specious to say Ian "maintain[ed] the momentum for Chris E's D1 lynch" as Chris states. As a matter of fact, Ian voted for Chris E. "just to get things started" (the first person to vote), said he was going to switch off his vote just to get the "third vote scumtell" out of the way, and even defended Chris E's analysis of "third vote scumtell". I see three options:

  1. Chris has discovered that Gene is a power role within the town via investigation and wants to protect him.
  2. Chris is focusing so intently on Ian because he has discovered via investigation that Ian is scum and wants the rest of us to recognize how certain he is.
  3. Chris knows Gene is a fellow scum and is eager to quickly shift the focus somewhere else.

I'm going to hold off voting until we see who else has anything to add, but I'm thinking that our remaining Chris is likely a cop or a scum.

I also find it interesting that the first three people to comment have suddenly become the center of suspicion.
