Hello GeekDad Community -
So, a series of events have seen me begin wandering down the retro-gaming path...beyond simulators and into purchasing a Commodore 64 and an Atari 2600.
Yes, the nostalgia is palpable, but the game play still strong. My 8 and 10 year old were quite happy to wait the extra loading time to play Street Fighter 2 on C64 loaded from a 5.25 floppy.
Anyway - I'm not sure how much or where the retro gaming community is online, where it is at in terms of the whys and hows and what nots?
Anyone here have some advice, or a similar interest?
cheers
Dan

Permalink Reply by Glenn Gass on September 24, 2012 at 8:44am I'm afraid I have moved to simulators for all my old games. Keeping old consoles and systems running have just gotten to hard. While I love them the storage alone was getting to be a hassle. I had to re-cap the power supply of my vic 20 and then the modulator went out and I could never fix that. Then the tape dive died so the whole thing when in a box and got lost two moves ago. Still have the TSR 80 and a few other classic systems but just never have the time to use them. And except of ET I can't think of a game I would want to keep the 2600 hooked up for any more.

Really - it all began with PitFall. I know there are great simulators - but really, I wanted the old joystick and the feel of ramming that cartridge into the socket...
I'm quite enjoying the novelty at the moment...a nice new geeky collector focus! :)
Permalink Reply by Teknophyl on September 26, 2012 at 8:51am I am an avid retro game collector. I changed my focus a bit because I ran out and bought all the so-called retro "cornerstones" of a collection (and overpaid for them!) but now resort to just browsing and stumbling on things that are on the cheap. The thing is, most of the games in my current collection I haven't gotten around to playing, and I'm not sure I EVER will... but my kids will!

Permalink Reply by Daniel Donahoo on October 3, 2012 at 8:49pm Where do you browse and stumble on things? I've got my C64 and Atari 2600 now...and a few games, but not willing to pay the ebay prices for games...are there many at jumble sales and the like? Anyone know?
Anyone have old games or systems they'd be willing to donate? ;) *cheeky request*
