The Cormac McCarthy book was tough read. For me, I could literally feel my chest tightening from concern over this father and son traveling in a post-apocalyptic world. For GeekDads the story seems to aimed squarely at us. But do you think the movie can be as good as the book?

Not sure. I agree with the "chest tightening". I kept thinking, "man, that is brutal. what would I do?" I hope the director didn't sell out and just go for the action. Because the book is not all about action. The score for movie will really have to play a role in the movie if it goes for "deep and dark and thoughtful".
I had a mate review the book and write notes for a book club program here in Australia, and after what he told me I have avoided it. Sounds very nihlist and I just haven't been in the right headspace for that in the last 18 months :) and, though I haven't read the book, not sure the movie will be able to capture it...not a book like that.
The book is dealing with a nihilist culture in a post-apocalyptic world. But the battle for survival experienced by a father with his son was really gripping for me as a dad. Every dad I know who read it really enjoyed the book. Mom's less so. (The mother in the book has a brief role. Not sure what Charlize is going to do with that.)

This has been one on my list to see.  I saw the preview and would think that I would enjoy watching the journey.  I always like watching something where a person struggles, but hopefully succeeds in retaining their humanity while the world around them goes up in flames.

And of course, I enjoyed Viggo Mortensen in LOTR and would like to see his acting in this one.
