GeekDad Sports
I'm looking to gauge interest in forming a new, recurring fantasy baseball league for the GeekDad community. The target is 16 franchises with ownership teams consisting of parent-kid partnerships. It is important that kids take an active role.
Ideally, owners will:
We can make a go of any league that has at least 8 franchises, but we'll definitely pick an even number of franchises and cap out participation at 20. Divisional alignment will be done after we have our final list of owners, to allow for us to group teams geographically as much as possible.
To claim a franchise, reply to this thread expressing your interest and send me an email (kevin@makice.net) with your name and contact information, including your location. The list in the thread will serve as a waiting list until you are invited to officially join.

Permalink Reply by Kevin Makice on April 5, 2012 at 11:37am CONGRATS! With the addition of a twelfth franchise, we are official and will definitely launch the league for 2012. Any future owners will have to be added in pairs. We can play with any even number of teams between 12 and 20, so there is still time and space to sign up.
If you are not yet listed on the franchises page and think you should be, please email me (kevin@makice.net) to express your interest and let me know where you call home. Joining this GDS project isn't enough; I need email contact, too.
Over the next few days, I'll add some new discussions for the group with assignments to help us get ready for opening week. Target date for a draft would be sometime between April 21-28, with starting lineups due by midday May 1.

Permalink Reply by Kevin Makice on April 7, 2012 at 1:56am With the addition of the Reese and Gale franchises, we are now at 16, my target number. We might yet expand to 18 or 20 teams before we cut off signups.

Permalink Reply by Jeff Bailey on April 8, 2012 at 2:32pm My 11 y.o. daughter and my 9 y.o. son and I would like to apply for a team. I myself have been doing fantasy baseball for about 10 years but would love the opportunity to introduce the family to this great hobby.

Permalink Reply by Kevin Makice on April 9, 2012 at 3:58am Jeff, sorry I didn't catch this note until now. If you sent an email to me, I didn't receive it. I'd love to add you to the waiting list, though, and I'll encourage you to check in on this thread to see if a second GDS league might start.
Permalink Reply by Steve Henry on April 8, 2012 at 2:46pm I used to love playing fantasy baseball. I tried fantasy baseball and others, but nothing compared to the daily excitement of fantasy baseball. I quit playing quite a few years ago because I wanted to spend time with my three sons instead of my fantasy baseball team. My eight year old son is a sports fanatic. He reads the baseball box scores every day and loves playing/watching baseball. His perfect day would be watching sports for 1/3 of the day, playing sports video games for 1/3 of the day, and playing sports for 1/3 of the day (forgoing sleep, eating, and bathing).
I know he would love to play fantasy baseball and I would enjoy playing again as well. We can both commit to the 6 expectations that you have for owners. It would be a real blast to play.
Play ball!
Steve

I haven't done a baseball league in 5-6 years, but my son is starting to take an interest (and loved doing fantasy football last fall) and this seems like a great way to introduce him to it.
