Fellow Fantasy Baseball owners,
I was wonderring if there is interest (or perhaps discussion already) about a GeekDad Fantasy Football league.
Another option to consider is a GeekDad Football Pickem league where instead of playing fantasy, you just pick who you think are going to win each week then track win-loss records. There are other variations of the Pickem league where you pick one game each week but you can only use each team once (perhaps this is a "geekier" alternative).
I have not played fantasy football in many, many years due to family and work obligations. I would be interested in playing if we get a league together; I know my baseball co-owner would enjoy it as well. The thought of a Pickem league is appealing because it would require less time and possibly be more fun for the co-owners.
Let me know your thoughts.
Steve
PS - Regardless of what we decide for Fantasy Football/Pickem, I think we have to consider a GeekDad March Madness tournament.

Permalink Reply by Kevin Makice on July 30, 2012 at 7:13pm I was just thinking this today. For many reasons, fantasy football is the easiest of the sports to get kids to understand and track, and I know I'd have some interested co-owners for this. This is the time to start prepping for drafts and recruiting, but I am swamped at the moment. I'd be willing to run one, though, if no one else stepped up to be a commish.

You've put a lot of time and energy into the Fantasy Baseball, so I think it is only fair to give you a break for football season (and just let you enjoy playing in the league). I am willing to commish (and/or help with) the fantasy football but I am very out of practice. If there is a more active fantasy football owner with a willingness to be a commish, I am certainly willing to defer.

PS - Vulcan minds must think alike since we are both in the Spock division.
Permalink Reply by Nick Krahn on August 2, 2012 at 12:18am I'd LOVE to do football. Fantasy Football has been the season I haven't missed since I started playing fantasy sports over 15 years ago (wow.....)
For times sake (and the commishs mental state....seriously Kevin wow with the baseball league. HUGE kudos) we could do a more automated fantasy league built on a more national site such as CBS, Yahoo (my two personal favs) or ESPN. The commishs responsibilities are minimal after draft day (approve a few trades maybe if the league votes against them and thats about it). Yahoo even allows free offline drafts if we wanted to rehash how the baseball league drafted (live but over the period of a few days...obviously something like this would have to be set sooner rather than later).
If we did move forward I'd think keeping the league smaller would be best and maybe give first priority to those owners from baseball who have been active and want to keep playing. Build on getting to know each other and whatnot.
Permalink Reply by michael.a.lally on August 6, 2012 at 8:07am I am up for both a Fantasy League and a Pick em. I like an active league. I agree with everything Nick said. I usually use ESPN. But I like the idea of Yahoo letting us draft over a period of days. I vote 10 man for fantasy. (Although I do love an auction - which through the wonders of technology - just keeps getting easier and easier to do via a video chat).
Permalink Reply by Steve Henry on August 13, 2012 at 10:08pm I have started a GeekDad Fantasy Football project. See link below. I am working with Kevin to review a blog article I wrote to generate interest in the football league.
