Claim a GeekDad Sports (GDS) Fantasy Football Franchise

After the success with the inaugural GDS fantasy baseball season, I'm looking to gauge interest in forming a new, recurring fantasy football league for the GeekDad community. The target is 10-16 franchises with ownership teams consisting of parent-kid partnerships. It is important that kids take an active role in your franchise. 

As I can atest to in the GDS fantasy baseball, my son and I have really enjoyed the league.  It has been a great bonding experience for us.  He is already a budding sports zealot; fantasy has only heightened his love of sports.  Don't miss this opportunity to share your love of sports with your child. 

Ideally, owners will:

  1. Include at least one parent and one child for each franchise
  2. Commit to the full season, which includes the initial draft near the end of August through the playoffs late in the NFL regular season
  3. Participate by submitting regular starting lineups and providing some kind of weekly quote on the status of the franchise
  4. Provide some backstory about the awesome name and logo you adopt for your franchise - again, it is important for your child to play an important role in the development of the name and logo
  5. Agree to some interviews along the way about the experience of playing GDS fantasy football, and possibly other topics related to football
  6. Try to go to at least one football game (NFL, college, or high school) during the season

We can make a go of any league that has at least 8 franchises, but we'll definitely pick an even number of franchises and cap out participation at 16. Divisional alignment will be done after we have our final list of owners, to allow for us to group teams geographically as much as possible.

To claim a franchise, reply to this thread expressing your interest and send me an email (iowahokies@gmail.com) with your name and contact information, including your location. The list in the thread will serve as a waiting list until you are invited to officially join.

Glad this is getting off the ground. Archie (and maybe 1-2 other junior Makices) and I will commit to a franchise.

We are at 11 teams so far.  At a minimum, I would like one more team to even things out.  We have plenty of owners for a good league.  I am sure we'll pick up a few more owners as well.  I'd like to cap the league at 16 as the talent gets awfully thin at that point.

Please look at the list below to 1) make sure you are on the list if you want to play and 2) make sure you have provided all of the information. 

In the meantime, start thinking about a snazzy team name - preferably with a lot of input from your child/children.  Remember, this is about the shared experience - not just pounding the rest of us into the field turf!  Lastly, I will post a seperate thread to get your input on online site to use as well as scoring system.
