Glow In The Dark 3D Printer

So you might ask, "Why make a 3d printer that glows in the dark?"  As my four year son said, "Why not Dad?  It will be so cool!"

Steps

In a nutshell, here are the steps:

We have a 3d printer on hand, so first we start printing out all of the parts in glo in the dark ABS filament.  While those are printing we start on the following:

Cut rods to length

Cut belts to length

Assemble the extruder

Assemble the frame

Attach rods to frame

Assemble Y Axis components (we are at this step)

Install X Axis components

Install Z Axis components

Install hot end on extruder

Cut Stepper Motor Wires

Cut Extruder Motor Wires

Wire the Gen6 circuit board

Calibrate and we will be ready to print.

My wife makes and sells these, so we have everything that we need in the garage.  However, you can get an assembled version or kit from the website.

So we have finished building our glow-in-the-dark 3D printer.

It looks very cool in the dark and then when we turn on the LED rocker switches to power it on - it's even more awesome.  It's tricky to photograph in the dark....

I asked what should we make first and my son wanted to 3d print a toy truck.

It was a lot of work, and we have a great time together!
