How do I set up a new project?

It's easy!

  • Go to the projects tab and click "Start a Project"
  • Fill in the details such as the name, image, a custom address, an associated web site, where you're located, who can join, which features you'd like to use, and who can join.
  • Select your Privacy Setting. You can enable your project to be open to all users OR ONLY to those members you invite, thus ensuring only approved users can participate. You can also control who can invite other members and how.

And that's it!

Why would I set up a project?

Projects are at the heart of the GeekDad experience, how we interact with our kids, and learn alongside them. The project pages here on the GeekDad community site are a great way to share what you're doing with your kids with the entire GeekDad community, and find new projects to try. The project pages here is very flexible. You can choose to make your project open to everyone or private and only available to members. You can use your project page to send email communications to all members, to ask for help or announce milestones.

How can I join a project?

View all available projects here, and depending upon the criteria set by the creator of the project, either join directly, or request permission to join. If you have an idea for a project, but need help sorting it all out, start your own project framework and ask the community to join.

How do I add members?

Use the 'Invite More Friends' link on your project page to start inviting members to join. New members can join by creating a geekdad.hotwired.com account, or simply with an existing Facebook, Twitter, Google+, or Yahoo account.
