I put Zombie Dice on my wish list and a kind relative gave it to me last Christmas. I managed to get a few of the many nephews and nieces to play that day, but most everyone's attention was hoovered up by the various DS and PSP games that were handed out like candy.
But in those few games I really had a good time and learned the rules for later.
Ah "later" -- it's such a nebulous term.
Five months later and Wil Wheaton's Table Top comes along and reminds me about Zombie Dice.
"I have that game!" I shouted to the screen. Wil, busy describing the rules, did not look up. That's okay, I forgave him.
That night after dinner I got my two daughters (age 10 and 12) together and we played.
My younger daughter has yet to learn caution. In the first four games we played she constantly pressed her luck... and lost. But she had so much fun doing it she really did not mind.
My older daughter is usually the exact opposite. It was fun to see her loosen up a little (and then be rewarded with a three-brain toss with one red and two yellow dice resulting in a win).
I've added lots of different games to the list and I'll look into going and buying some soon. In fact, we have a trip this weekend and so that means we'll have some quiet time in the hotel before bed time. I just might need to make a run to the game store!

After finally getting the game, I wanted to report back. We picked it up yesterday at Third Eye Comics in Annapolis, brought it home, a quick read of the directions, and we were off to the races.
That's when my 10 year old son waxed me thirteen to zero in the first game.
And then beat me again in the next three games as well. I like how it's a quick play and fast reset in between games. There's zero learning curve and affords the opportunity for some fun smack-talk within the family.
Thank, Garrett!
Perfect. Thanks, pal. Now that I pitched it to the family, both the kids pointed out that it's at our local comic book shop. Might make a trip tomorrow.
Comment by Garrett Alley on May 26, 2012 at 4:20pm It's a stand alone game (just the dice and a cup...). There's an expansion I haven't tried (yet). Read what GeekDad had to say here: http://www.wired.com/geekdad/2012/04/zombie-dice-2/
20 minutes is actually a long game, especially once you get the hang of the (simple) rules.
Hope that helps!
Glad I stumbled across this, Garrett. It looks like something the whole family can get into. Just a couple of questions. Is this a game that you end up buying a whole bunch of add-ons or is it complete as a stand alone? Second, the directions say 10-20 minutes per game - is that true?
