Hey everyone! First, I want to say welcome to all the folks that have joined us due to, and since, GeekDad Day. We are really, really happy to see you all here, and we can feel the excitement growing for our little corner of the internets.

I want to take a moment and talk about blogging here on the Community. As this is in many ways an experiment, we are all still working out the kinks, and some irregularities will come up from time to time. Our policies are not perfect, and we're all happy to talk when things go wonky, because in the end, we're all here to have fun.

One of the things that's important to understand is that we're cool with folks re-publishing content from personal blogs. But (there's always a but) such content isn't what we're hoping for the most, especially with respect to getting it featured here or even promoted to GeekDad.com. We want the work of passionate amateurs. We want real people talking about the real stuff they enjoy. We want the Community to provide a home for folks to write about their geeky endeavors.

The Community is non-commercial (for as long as we can keep it that way!), and one might think that licensing and rights issues wouldn't be a big concern, but since the site is still owned by Wired, and since anything that might get promoted to GeekDad.com has to be clean and clear, we've set down the guidelines to give people a solid framework for crafting viable content. The Community Leaders are the gatekeepers for making sure the guidelines are being followed, both in all the practical ways that help make content readible, as well as in spirit; making sure people aren't posting to build a professional portfolio, or to sell a product, or drive clicks to affiliate links.

If you've written something but you're not sure if you've followed the guidelines correctly, just ask a Community Leader. Michael, Nathan, Dave, and Dan are all great guys. More importantly, they've been blogging with GeekDad for a long time, and know the ins-and-outs. They're here to help you write good posts, and make sure that what gets featured and promoted won't get anyone in trouble. Since this is a community, it's best to ask permission first, rather than beg forgiveness later, and if you come to them in an open, friendly manner looking for help, you'll get it. Wheaton's Law is the golden rule here.

In the end, the success of this Community is built on all of you, bringing your voices and your passions together and representing the geeky parents of the world. I can't wait to see where it takes us all!
