The Construct of Time: Where GeekDad is a constant

Hey there. Happy 5th birthday GeekDad, really? 5 years.

Time is a strange thing, we try and contain it in different ways - sometimes it seems to fly and other times creeps along so slowly. Yet, across that 5 years, GeekDad has been one of the constants in my life. I don't often hang around places for that long. I've never been in a job that long. But, here I am.

I've been a contributor to this little corner of the interwebs that had grown out of Chris Anderson's desire to share projects he was doing with his son for four of those 5 years...and an early reader.

And a lot has happened in that 5 years, as it does in life. There have births and deaths and the pain of a divorce and the all encompassing joy and excitment of a new relationship. There have been house moves and gardens to replant. My two older boys and I have continued to play roleplaying games together, they've learnt how to play Settlers of Catan, we've painted miniatures together and I've watched with pride as they build greater and more nuanced Lego creations. I've introduced them to the original Star Wars trilogy and realise they have a better grasp of the timelines in george Lucas' Universe than I do...which is how it should be...the student becomes the master.

Through all of that, I've blogged. (Sometimes sparingly, but I've been there reading and smiling and  I've shared things that I've found interesting and I've learnt more and recieved through GeekDad than i think I've given. All this has happened over here, on the other side of the globe in Australia. Despite best intentions I've not yet met my fellow bloggers (a fact we must remedy), but I feel I know this whole community well. I think we have an investment in play and in making and creating and sharing. It is what I value most about the GeekDad culture, it celebrates all achievements - no matter how small.

So, may this new aspect of GeekDad...this community site help it to grow and create more spaces for us to connect and share the things we find interesting in our own geeky ways...
